Additional Details

Though more slightly worn than usually encountered, this was the house copy belonging to the great New York City Jazz Age Art Director, William Oden Waller, with his studio ownership stamp (and "Property of" penned above the first one) on the endpapers, frontispiece, preface, and one captioned plate guard. Waller was known for his fantastical settings, colors, and dynamic staging, and it is fascinating to know that the revered Danish illustrator Kay Nielsen, was among his influences. In addition to East of the Sun and his other famous works, Nielsen created set designs for the Royal Danish Theater in Copenhagen in the teens and early twenties as well as later serving as a concept art designer for Walt Disney Studios, contributing to many works including Fantasia.
